Git - Github

Git is a tool with a lot of commands... Here are some basic ones for a simple workflow. To manage the work of multiple team members developing different features in parallel you need other commands and greater expertise - try to stick to this workflow...

You might need to install git first, google is your friend, git has an easy installer just ask chatgpt... "I am on Windows/MacOS/Ubuntu... and I need to install git, guide me through the process in small steps please." - and when you are done with that: "I also want to connect to my github profile, guide me through the setup and login in small steps."

You can start "fresh", with a clean folder, building the app (and the repo) from scratch. Start with a `git init` in that case.

If you start "fresh", you will need to (or at least most likely want to) connect it to a github repo. First, create a repo at github.com > Avatar > Repositories > New > Set repo name > Create repository and then you can get back to the command line.

You will have to authenticate to git somewhere in this process - just ask chatgpt: "Hey, I am on MacOS/Windows, I have git installed and i want to connect to my github account, guide me through that in small steps pls." You have to do it once (in every few months or so.)

Another way to start is by cloning an existing repo from github - in case someone else already started it.

Then THIS is how you will usually work - locally. You would like to create versions that you can get back to in case a feature update goes wrong.

Also, it is recommended to save your project "to the cloud" as well: push the versions to github. It is a back for you, if anything happens with your laptop, but also, another developer can work on it as well.

Here it can get funky... if two people work on the same repo, especially if they work on the same files 'merge conflicts' can appear. That is normal, there are best practices to solve them, but it is not in the scope of this basic tutorial.

The advice here - that can most certainly work on a project with this size - is the following: either you edit the files, when you are done you push it, and then the other pulls and continues editing, or the other way around. No parallel work - and you will be fine. Let's keep it simple.
